Sundaram Tagore Gallery

Once an abandoned taxi garage in a rundown 19th century factory building, this space was converted into an art gallery devoted to the exchange of ideas between Western and non-Western cultures. To create a dialogue of contrast, much of the original architectural fabric was retained to accentuate tensions between the existing and new, industrial and organic, and textured and smooth. The gallery opened to widespread praise and has been recognized for its unusual design.

Katz Architecture provided architectural design and full project management services including landlord and tenant agreement negotiation, construction document production, consultant coordination, and construction administration.

Katz Architecture was an invaluable partner when we opened our first gallery in Chelsea. I would happily recommend them. The project was a complicated one and the result was highly effective and fruitful.
