Gramercy Townhouse

This project involved the significant renovation of an 1840’s landmark townhouse that was later redesigned by Frederick Sterner in 1908. KA served as local Architect of Record alongside design architect, Lucho Marcial. The scope of the renovation entailed a complete gut of the building including replacement of all structure with new steel framing, structural reinforcement of all historic brick walls, the installation of a new hydraulic, glass-enclosed elevator, a new custom steel stair, excavation for expanded cellar, new roof and roof deck, new windows and complete refurbishment of all electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems. The front façade underwent meticulous cleaning and restoration including the replacement of all non-historic fabric with historically accurate material. Today it remains protected by both the National Trust and the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission.
