Museum Tower 3-Apartment Combination
Goal:
To connect three separate apartments on two different levels in a high-rise apartment in Midtown.
Process:
When luck presented the option of simultaneously acquiring two apartments – one adjacent and one above their existing, the clients went for it. Because the combined space was on two different floors, construction required the removal of some of the structural slab between levels and the introduction of a new stair to connect them. As the first project of this type in the building, it raised concerns on the part of the Board, who relied on KATZ to coordinate engineering and approvals to assure safety. Working in association with Stedila design, KATZ provided design, consulting and project management services. In addition to new finishes throughout, the renovation included extensive electrical, audio-visual and plumbing work.
Result:
The three separate apartments were successfully combined to feel like one. With a dramatic steel and glass staircase, the vertical combination successfully opened the apartment to the serenity of more light and expansive views.
Moral:
Three’s a charm.
