WTC Competition

This competition entry for the WTC memorial, done in association with David Rockwood, envisions a glass bottom reflection pool at street level suspended over lower gardens in the footprints of the towers. A memorial sanctuary - a free-standing organic tower - is seen as a place of scaleless quality to mirror the immeasurable dimensions of loss. Light fixtures, concealed in the lower garden are assembled in the composition of the stars of the night sky on 9/11. The sanctuary tower is lit from above by a pattern of 3,022 prisms, one for each of those lost in the tragedy.

As an Owner's Rep and Architect, David has guided us at the Stephan Weiss Studio through a number of complex code, zoning and construction projects. He and his team have been a valuable resource.
