KATZ in St. George Tower

KATZ Architecture has been retained to renovate the lobby of the Hotel St. George, located in Brooklyn Heights. Once the largest hotel in NYC, the St. George Hotel drew celebrities, athletes, and presidential hopefuls to its many ballrooms and largest indoor salt-water pool in the US. Built in various phases between 1885 and 1929, the structure has served a number of uses. The lobby under renovation is located at the base of a 30 story tower converted to co-op residences in 1984.

Lobby (for) Progress

This was a nice little exercise in preservation. Working with a limited budget, the client wanted to upgrade the lobby of a hundred year old UWS building. Retaining as much as possible, we created a curved niche for larger mailboxes, upgraded the lighting, developed a palette of paint colors to highlight existing detail, upgraded the entry and just all around made the place nicer. It's still in process, but we're getting there.

Check out the before and after shots.

We added a case-study for this project here.

KATZ in gramercy park.

KATZ Architecture in association with Lucho Marcial Architects of Barcelona has just completed construction documents for the interior renovation of a landmark townhouse in Gramercy Park. The mid-nineteenth century building was renovated by noted architect Frederick Sterner in 1908 and subsequently by several others. In keeping with the landmark designation, the new design will maintain the arts and crafts charm of the exterior while completely modernizing the interior. Among other amenities, the house is to be fitted with a folded plate steel stair and glass enclosed elevator.

  • We were thrilled with David and his entire team's performance and skill in our store buildout. The "Katz Team" saw our project through from inception to completion... and were able to constantly arrive at creative and thoughtful solutions.

  • David has a good eye and creative ideas that really worked well for our space.  He was always fair, easy to work with, and always kept our budget in mind.  When it came time to start the work, he arranged for an excellent contractor who completed the work on time and with great workmanship.

  • David Katz has been a pleasure to work with from the beginning through the end of a major lobby renovation project in our building. He has been professional, attentive to detail, responsive, budget-minded, and creative in resolving all challenges. I would definitely enlist his services for future projects and recommend him to others.
